The organizations and people listed here work in difficult environments-most are difficult for animals and for people. Available funds are limited, and because of so many competing needs, government rarely funds animal welfare in these countries; these governments usually find it difficult just meeting human needs. Similarly, donations, when there is a population that can afford charity, usually go toward human-centered causes.

The people below are the champions of animals in their countries, fighting a difficult, uphill battle, which can often feel very lonely. These are not the only countries with animal champions, and even within these countries, there may be others who are working to improve the lives of animals. However, the people and organizations below have proven their dedication, exemplified by the many years spent and significant efforts in the service of animal welfare. We hope to add more countries and organizations in the future. Click on a Map to View a Larger Image.
