We have two pieces of really good news to share about our Partner Organization, Sauvons nos Animaux, which means good news for the cats and dogs of Congo. With so much negative news about the DRC over the past few years (armed conflicts, Ebola, natural disasters), we're so happy to share this positive news.

A Rescue Vehicle for Sauvons nos Animaux and the Cats and Dogs of Congo

In June, together with IFAW, we co-shared the purchase of a vehicle for Sauvons nos Animaux, a used SUV, tough enough for the roads in and around Bukavu.

The vehicle has already been put to good use. Recently, the Sauvons nos Animaux team traveled to a village far from the shelter, near the airport, to rescue dogs who the villagers were threatening to kill. With no other choice, the dogs' owners reached out to Sauvons nos Animaux and asked for help.

Thanks to the vehicle, the Sauvons nos Animaux team was able to access this very remote area and bring the two dogs to the safety of the Sauvons nos Animaux shelter. Without the vehicle, Sauvons nos Animaux wouldn't have been able to reach this area and save these dogs from a cruel end.

Sauvons nos Animaux Hosts Animal-Friendly Kids Camp-2026

In August, Sauvons nos Animaux finally launched their Animal-Friendly Kids Camp after having to skip 2025 due to the ongoing conflict. Over the past year, armed militias had taken refuge around the shelter, and it wasn't safe for SnA staff and shelter animals, let alone the children.

Although in 2026, camp started a little later than usual, during the 1st week of August, it was a welcome break for everyone to have the kids back at the shelter. Instead of two months, camp activities took place over one month, but there was just as much enthusiasm and fun (and learning).

Besides the vehicle and camp, Animal-Kind International also supports Sauvons nos Animaux through the Shirlee Christensen Memorial Pet Food Fund, and covers staff salaries, shelter improvements, and more. But we need your help! Thank you for donating to Animal-Kind International and designating our Partner, Sauvons nos Animaux-Congo.
