The Uganda Rescue Scam: Animal-Kind International support continues
As a member of the Animal Welfare Alliance of Uganda, Animal-Kind International offered to support the vet care for the 52 dogs and 6 cats rescued from the scammers (see our AKI Blog post from June). Early this month, we came to the rescue again when Daisyx and Eddie needed help.
Daisyx and Eddie, two of the lucky dogs rescued from the Mityana scammers, needed emergency vet care. Daisyx, a 2 to 3 year old dog, had a worrying bump on his (yes, Daisyx is a male) nose. It could have been cancer, it could have been in injury from being hit. We weren't sure. But it was infected, he lost some teeth and bone, and he now had a hole in his palate.
Eddie, who is about 6 years old, had chronic eye issues that needed to be treated.
Daisyx was brought to the vet clinic and put on antibiotics as we waited for the results of the blood test. Once we had the results and Daisyx was found healthy enough to go ahead with surgery, he had an oronasal fistula repair, "surgical closure of an oronasal communication using a local buccal flap, with peri-operative supportive care."
Although we were still not certain, we think the scammer probably bashed him on the nose. We expect a full recovery.
Eddie's eye was removed. We don't know what happened to Eddie, but we're glad we can help relieve his pain.
In May and June, we continued supporting the spays, neuters, blood tests, and vaccinations. May 29 was blood sampling day:
By June 2, one neuter and three spays had been completed.
That same day, Dr Isa removed tumors from a dog and spayed her:
On June 11, two more dogs were neutered and two spayed. By June 18, four more dogs were spayed and all puppies had received their 1st round of parvo shots and the rest of the dogs received their cocktail vaccine.
We are continuing to ensure that these 52 dogs, who suffered so much at the hands for the scammers (and the puppies born after the rescue), now get the care they so deserve.
