When they completed their 2025 Animal Welfare Organization Grant Project, we knew that Fondation Alliance Verte - Haiti still needed a lot more support to help their rescued dogs and cats. So we awarded them a top-up grant for vet care of their shelter pets. When you read about Blacky, you'll see why we're so grateful we could help this special dog, as well as 3 newly rescued cats.

Blacky's story is best told by Marylin, FAV Director:

"Two years ago on December 2023 , we saw a puppy, around 5 months old, in our neighborhood. We found out he belonged to one neighbor who didn’t have the means to care for him. We have been helping with his care, since.

Blacky as a puppy

His name is Blacky and he is very special to us. Unfortunately, around November 21st, he was hit by a car and we found out 6 days later. He was suffering greatly, was badly injured to the point that,to save him, he had to be amputated. His other wounds were so severe that he needed long time hospitalization to heal. He ended up spending sixteen  days at the vet clinic, From November 27th to December 12th."

Getting Blacky ready for surgery

Doctor Frederic Wulff performed amputation surgery on Nov 27, and kept him at the clinic for 16 days to monitor and treat him. When he was healed and it was time to send Blacky home, he went home to the FAV shelter, where he will be safe and much loved:

On December 26, Dr Wulff vaccinated three newly rescued cats, who are now safe and happy at the FAV sanctuary:

Animal-Kind International thanks the three FAV employees, Jackson Toussaint, Victor Previlus, and Jaslin Florville, as well as the director, Marylin Esper Acloque, who ensured Blacky was swiftly cared for and will be looking after him with the love and care he deserves; and who helped rescue and are caring for the new FAV kitty residents at the FAV sanctuary (as well as all the other dogs and cats at the shelter).

This video is Blacky's story. It's actually two videos in one: the 1st half is for those of you who prefer not to see the extent of Blacky's injuries. But if you continue to the 2nd half (there's a warning about sensitive content at about the halfway point), you'll see the full story and why we are so happy and grateful to have worked with FAV Haiti to help Blacky.
