Fondation Alliance Verte in Haiti was one of our 13 Animal Welfare Organization Grantees in 2025. Knowing the difficult situation for dogs and cats (and people) in Haiti, the dangers that FAV faces on a daily basis, and the huge needs that FAV has, a generous AKI supporter stepped up to help and we created the FAV-Haiti Spay/Neuter & Emergency Vet Care Fund.
Other AKI supporters took notice, and also wanted to help FAV and Haiti's cats and dogs. Thanks to them, we'll be replenishing the FAV Fund (at least for the month of September), and we hope to continue to be able to support FAV as a Special Project, through the FAV Spay/Neuter & Emergency Fund, far beyond September.
From when we created the FAV Fund in April through June, a total of 30 animals received vet care, 18 dogs and 12 cats.
Spay/Neuter, Preventive Care:
4 cats and 3 dogs were vaccinated
1 cat and 2 dogs were spayed
1 cat was neutered
Emergency Vet Treatments : 6 cats and 12 dogs were treated for illnesses including:
2 dogs had surgery for pyometra
1 dog had surgery to remove part of his tongue
1 dog with severe gum infection had prophylaxis (teeth cleaning)
A total of 6 dogs were hospitalized, 1 for a deep infected wound with maggots, 1 for infected gums with maggots, 1 for erlichiosis, and 2 for pyometra surgery and treatment.
1 severely malnourished puppy didn't make it and had to be euthanized.
These are some of the cats and dogs helped by the FAV Fund.
Chica was hospitalized to treat a severe gum infection with maggots. She received a professional dental cleaning before leaving the clinic and going back home.
Scarlett is one of the dogs who was spayed with the FAV Fund. She lost one eye while she was living on the streets of Port au Prince. People in the neighborhood where she was living wanted to kill her. FAV rescued her when she was very pregnant in November 2025. She gave birth to 8 puppies at the FAV shelter. Thanks to the Fund we created, FAV could finally afford to have Scarlett spayed.
FAV rescued Kiki when they heard that her owners abandoned her, leaving her all alone in their yard when they left the country. FAV had Kiki spayed with the S/N & Emergency Fund.
Domino was an orphaned kitten when FAV rescued him. FAV used the Fund to have him neutered.
An owner of a cat who lives in the area where the shelter is located came to FAV asking for help, Their cat had feline mammary fribroepithelial (mastitis). She desperately needed surgery to treat mastitis and she needed to be spayed.
While the cat was recuperating at the FAV shelter, her owner moved away and told FAV to keep her.
Mata lives in a neighborhood where one of FAV's shelter staff lives. She's part of a group of dogs he feeds. Recently he found Mata motionless on the street. She was taken to the vet and diagnosed with pyometra, a severe life threatening infection. She was hospitalized and surgery was performed. Once well enough, she was returned to her neighborhood and the group of dogs she knows and the neighborhood she's comfortable in. And where she continues to be watched over by the FAV shelter employee.
Rocco needed surgery to remove part of his tongue. It was rotten! Rocco now lives at the FAV shelter, but he used to be a stray. FAV rescued him after he was found on the street, collapsed, he was so weak from hunger.
Simona was left behind when her owner left the country. Before leaving, they asked FAV to take her. She's 11 years old, suffers from chronic pain, and often has difficulty walking. It doesn't help that once, long ago, she was hit with a big rock and suffered a severe injuries. FAV gives her NSAIDS for arthritis pain and she was also treated with Nexguard, all with the FAV Fund.
Lolita was rescued 7 years ago along with her two siblings. She recently got sick and needed blood work to find out what was wrong. It was probably just an infection, and she recovered well as you can see.
The FAV shelter currently cares for 86 cats and 75 dogs. They also help families who can’t afford to care for their animals by sending food and paying for vet care.
Let's make sure FAV can continue this lifesaving work! Please donate to replenish the FAV Haiti Spay/Neuter & Emergency Vet Care Fund.
