Kindness to Animals Has No Boundaries

AKI News: November 2025

I won’t bombard you with Giving Tuesday requests (as I am, you’re probably getting too many of those). Rather, at this time of year, as part of our community (that includes our donors, followers of our social media and newsletters, our Partners and Grantees, volunteers, and all of you who have shared your thoughts with us), we thank you for your year-round loyalty and commitment that ensures we can help animals in Africa and Latin America/Caribbean.

I hope we earn your trust and commitment not from a few end-of year requests, but from our monthly e-newsletters, the information on our website, and our social media posts. Together these illustrate why we need your support, what your donations are used for, and what they’ve accomplished. Other than these newsletters, you’ll only hear from me:

  • When you donate-I always send a thank you email message (this is NOT the automatic message from our donation platform; it is a separate personal thank you). If you have ever donated and not gotten my thank you email, please get in touch and let me know!

  • For monthly/recurring donors - In December, I send an email message to each of you with the total donated over the year and what you’ve helped us accomplish. PLEASE watch for that message!

  • If you send me a message, I’ll reply.

And when you do hear from us, it will never be with AI and that includes our newsletters. Our communications are from the heart, not from AI.

Kingston Community Animal Welfare-Hurricane Melissa Update

Photo left: Deborah readies this street dog for a bath-rubble was stuck to her skin; she needed a good scrubbing to remove it.  Photo right: This group of KCAW street dogs safely weathered the hurricane but were very hungry for their KCAW meal!

Thank you to all who donated to Animal-Kind International for our Partner in Jamaica, Kingston Community Animal Welfare and their hurricane relief efforts. Because of your support, we were quickly able to get a much-needed disbursement to KCAW for their immediate use for food and vet care for hurricane victims.

Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica on October 28. The 1st time we heard from Deborah after that was on October 31. But it wasn’t until a few days later that she could reach some of the worst hit areas of Kingston. Not all KCAW street cats and dogs made it through the hurricane. But most did and now have returned to their homes on the street. Many new dogs and cats have shown up on Kingston’s streets, presumably now homeless and added to KCAW’s feeding rounds (and in most cases, spay/neuter list). KCAW would never have been able to respond to these extra needs if not for your help—and they will be able to continue responding thanks to you!

A vet administers an injection to a cat on a table wrapped in a brown towel in a vet office in Jamaica.
This kitty was one of the 1st KCAW rescues after the hurricane. She had an injury on her neck that turned into an abscess and “severe intestinal trauma,” probably from drinking polluted water. Deborah brought her home to recuperate.

Updates from the AKI Blog: Helping Animals in Africa & Latin America

Read AKI Blog posts and go a little deeper into what Animal-Kind International support means to our Partners, Grantees, and the animals:

South Sudan SPCA’s spay-neuter campaign has reached a milestone - We’ve been working together for over 5 years, and finally South Sudan’s 1st large-scale spay-neuter campaign is in sight. The original plan is still in place: Over a two-week period, we aim to sterilize about 500 dogs and cats; we will involve as many local South Sudanese volunteers as possible; and we will bring in Kenya SPCA staff to train locals so that the South Sudan SPCA can run future spay/neuter campaigns without outside assistance. It’s time to help South Sudan’s overlooked dogs and cats (like this sweet kitty in the photo above, who has waited a long time for her spay appointment!)

News from our Partner Animal Shelter Shelter in Congo, Sauvons nos Animaux - This is a short review of the past few months at the shelter and what Animal-Kind International support to Sauvons nos Animaux has meant for the animals and staff.

A sign that high inflation has hit all of us-inflation has no boundaries-is that several of our Partner Organizations depleted AKI funds 2 to 3 months earlier than expected and sooner than they have in the past. For those organizations, (The Six Freedoms-Ghana, Sauvons nos Animaux-Congo, Have a Heart-Namibia, and Kingston Community Animal Welfare), we’ve sent additional funds to get them through the year. On each of their pages on the AKI website, you can see the pie chart showing how they’ve spent AKI funds through October (like this one below):

Pie chart showing Six Freedoms in Ghana 2025 donation spending: green (23% Horse Care), red (19% Salaries), blue (19% Transport), labels explain categories.

While you’re on our website, check out the new pictures we’ve added. And see some of the new comments on the “What People Are Saying About AKI” page, like this comment from Jim, an AKI donor: "It's so nice to feel a linking of hands with a culture on the other side of the world. You make it possible and I thank you for this precious gift of kinship that your work engenders."

Thanks to a generous AKI supporter, we’re able to award “top-up” grants to four of our 2025/2026 Animal Welfare Organization Grant Recipients. The 1st to receive a top-up grant of US$1000 is Fondation Alliance Verte in Haiti. FAV will use their additional award in support of their shelter, the only animal shelter currently operating in Haiti. This week, the Rivadeneira Sterilization Center in Ecuador will receive an additional $1000 to continue their spay/neuter surgeries, most of which are helping impoverished elderly provide care for their pets. The other two recipients will be announced soon.

Elderly woman with walker sits on a wooden bench talking to a young person against a peach colored wall with Animal-Kind International logo in Ecuador.
Luis (Rivadeneira Sterilization Center) speaks with Maria about how AKI and the Sterilization Center can spay her dog at no-cost and the benefits that will have for her and her dog. An unexpected benefit of these visits: the elderly pet owners welcome the company and companionship of Sterilization Center volunteers.

Now you can donate to Animal-Kind International with Zelle—in many cases, your donation may be fee-free!

Gratefully yours,
