Kindness to Animals Has No Boundaries

AKI News: September 2026

With this Matching Grant, our 2026 animal welfare grantees in Africa & LAC

could do SO much!

What a great opportunity we’ve been given! A kind supporter has offered up to US$2000 in matching funds to be used for up to four of our 2026 animal welfare grantees in Africa and Latin America/Caribbean. If we raise the full match ($2000), four grantees will receive an additional $1000 each. AND WE’RE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP! Please help us reach the full $2000 match and help us decide which grantees will receive a bonus grant.

Donate any amount and type your vote into the comments section of the Donorbox form or send me an email message with your vote (see bottom of page).

Read about our 14 Animal Welfare Grantees HERE, donate any amount HERE, and vote for ONE grantee of your choice to receive a bonus of up to US$1000. Based on the number of votes, we’ll select up to two grantees in LAC and two grantees in Africa to receive a bonus grant!

It’s very difficult to choose four among our 14 grantees and that’s why we’re asking for your help! Organización ARI in Honduras is one of the contenders. For their grant project, in early September, they visited Amigos de Jesús Children's Home in Macuelizo, Santa Bárbara to survey the animals, assess their physical condition, and begin initial medical evaluations and sterilization procedures.

The AKI Blog: Updates from our supported organizations

In the September AKI Blog, you’ll find detailed updates about:

First time AKI grantee, COALA in Senegal, was the first to complete their grant project, Keeping the dogs cool and dry and the horses footloose. COALA replaced a roof over the dog kennels and storage area at their sanctuary, built stables, and built a tiled terrace for the dogs to stay cool and minimize parasite infestations (common in sandy soil and in Senegal’s tropical environment).

Woman stands by two horses in a yard and a dog stands on a wall beside a white painted stable at a sanctuary in Senegal.
The new horse stables, shown in the background, allow the 14 rescued horses (up from 8 mentioned in the article) to move much more freely than they could previously. Read the full report HERE.

Animal Love Rescue Center in Costa Rica also completed their grant project, Green Hill Playground. Animal Love built an outdoor play area at their sanctuary to give their dogs more time outside the kennels to socialize, become more comfortable with humans, and become better candidates for adoption.

The 6 Freedoms (with support from Animal-Kind International), is the only help and hope for horses in Ghana. First as an AKI grantee (2021 and 2022), and for the last 4 years, as a Partner Organization, 6F has been training and providing advice and support to horse caretakers, rescuing horses (when there’s no other choice because as we’ve found, rescue is very expensive), and providing support for horses at informal stables in and around Accra. 6F has come a long way since their early days! Here’s an update about their work and AKI support.

How Humane Education is changing the way people in Liberia treat animals: I think it’s fair to say that we all believe humane education (aka animal welfare education, compassionate education) is important and that it should be part of all animal welfare activities. But where’s the data? There isn’t much, so we decided to gather it ourselves using Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society’s long-time experience.

New pie charts show how your donations are spent!
