Kindness to Animals Has No Boundaries

AKI News: February 2026

Many people have asked if their donations make a difference. YES! Every single donation, no matter how small or large, matters. We are only able to do what we do because of each and every one of you. We have no other source of income, only your individual donations. Your thoughtfulness and kindness make us grateful. Here’s a brief look into how-because of you- Kindness Has No Boundaries!

February’s AKI Blog has news from 5 of our 2025/2026 Animal Welfare Organization Grantees and a peek into our Partner, Uganda SPCA’s, 2025 report.

Uganda SPCA: the 2025 rescue, adoption, sheltering numbers are in. In this AKI Blog post, you’ll get a preliminary look at the USPCA’s achievements in 2025 (available here even before the USPCA’s annual report goes live!)

Three children sit on a red bench each holding a puppy set against a blue wall in Uganda at the animal shelter.
Three of the 570 dogs and cats from poor households who were helped (vaccinations, parasite treatments) by the USPCA in 2025. Local kids benefited too: they received animal welfare education from the knowledgeable USPCA staff. The USPCA has been an AKI Partner Organization since 2007, the beginning of AKI!

Fondation Alliance Verte-Haiti helps dog Blacky & 3 cats with AKI’s top-up grant. When they completed their 2025 Animal Welfare Organization Grant Project, we knew that Fondation Alliance Verte still needed a lot more support to help their rescued dogs and cats. So we awarded them a top-up grant for vet care for their shelter pets.

Blacky is a much-loved dog who lived near the FAV shelter. He was hit by a car, and thanks to the top-up grant from AKI, he received much needed vet care. He’s now a resident of the shelter!

Huellas De Amor in Colombia spays dogs in impoverished areas. This grant funded Huellas de Amor to spay 85 dogs in one of the more impoverished parts of Colombia, and a location where they already had considerable animal welfare experience. Their aim was to decrease abandonment, overpopulation, complaints about strays, and cruelty, as well as improve the health of the spayed dogs.

Vida de Gatos in Chile sterilizes cats to prevent abandonment. The grant from AKI to Vida de Gatos provided 100 free sterilizations in communities with a high cat abandonment rate. One of the main reasons that cats are abandoned is that during mating season they can be nuisances. Vida de Gatos nipped that problem in the bud!

Triglav Trust in Namibia made improvements to the cattery for their rescued cats. Prior to this grant project, even the slightest rain flooded the cattery. But no more! Triglav’s cats now have year-round warm, cozy, dry living spaces.

Shelter for 100+ donkeys and vet care for 1: Starting Over Sanctuary-Israel: With our grant to SOS, they built a sturdy shed to shelter over 100 donkeys, and thanks to some of our supporters who wanted to help SOS more, donkey Hanukah received intensive vet care for an injured leg.

A donkey with a bandaged leg stands tied in a stable against a wooden sliding door wearing a purple halter at a sanctuary in Israel.
Hanukah’s hoof needed to be amputated and he was fit for a prosthesis

Animal-Kind International News:

Kindness to animals has no boundaries

Our VERY BRIEF policy on AI. We value communicating with other humans, especially those who care about animals. AI's great for some things, but not for personal communications. If you send us an AI-generated message, we'll send one of our AI-generated auto-replies. If you want to reach a real human at Animal-Kind International, have a real human write the message. Our newsletters are always written from the head and heart, and not by an AI bot.

Already in 2026, 3 organizations have started our “Friendly Audit” Program. This program involves working with a selected organization to identify its strengths, shortcomings, and needs. Then we pair the organization with a virtual volunteer/mentor to help meet the identified needs. The program is tailored to each organization and depends on the volunteer’s time, interests, and capacities.

A smiling child in a green and white shirt sits on a wooden bench with a gray and white cat on her lap in Liberia.
Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society has seen the results of their Humane Ed Program and Wubu with her pet cat is a great example of the love and care that the program engenders. But we wanted to find out more.

AKI Partner Organization, Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society, wants to discover how their Humane Education Program has impacted participants in the short and long-term. They want to learn from their almost 2 decades of experience  and we-Animal-Kind International-having supported LAWCS for 10 years, agree! LAWCS has now been paired with a mentor who is helping them develop and implement a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Plan. This will not only be a huge help and a great experience for LAWCS; we believe it will help all organizations involved in Humane Ed monitor and get better results.

Our Annual Report-2025 is available on our website (or send an email message and I’ll send it to you). The report has all the details about how we helped our Partners in 2025—and their achievements, about our Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program, and so much more. This year the annual report includes a new section, Way Forward, where you can learn more about our plans for 2026.

MONTHLY DONORS: I sent all end-of-year emails (with total donated and what your donations helped us accomplish) in mid-December. If you haven’t received yours, please get in touch and I’ll gladly re-send it.

Twala Trust's Waggley Tail Club-watch them wag their tails

We’ll leave you on this happy note, the video above of Twala Trust sanctuary’s (Zimbabwe) group of older dogs, the Waggley Tail Club. Many of these dogs were surrendered to the sanctuary because their families realized that Twala could provide better care for their older dog than they could. Animal-Kind International supports Twala's Waggley Tail Club with meds, food, repairs to their living quarters, and those nice cozy, warm doggy houses (you can see them and the waggley tails in the video above).

We are gratefully yours,
