As a member of the Animal Welfare Alliance of Uganda, Animal-Kind International has been supporting the vet care for the 52 dogs and 6 cats rescued from the Mityana, Uganda scammers. Here's what we've been doing to help these lucky dogs.

Fondation Alliance Verte in Haiti was one of our 13 Animal Welfare Organization Grantees in 2025. Knowing the difficult situation for dogs and cats (and people) in Haiti, the dangers that FAV faces on a daily basis, and the huge needs that FAV has, a generous AKI supporter stepped in to help and we created the FAV-Haiti Spay/Neuter & Emergency Vet Care Fund. So far 30 cats and dogs have been helped.

The Animal-Kind International Animal Welfare Grant program received 123 proposals. From those, we selected 41 finalists, 21 in Africa, 20 in Latin America/Caribbean. Then, our committees reviewed and selected 14 proposals, the winners of our animal welfare grant in Africa and Latin America-Caribbean.

The Good DOG Fund (Dogs of Grahamstown) was created in November 2024 when AKI supporters, who were impressed by the SPCA Grahamstown's AKI grant project, decided they wanted to make sure the SPCA could continue their lifesaving work. They donated to create a fund so that the SPCA could continue to sterilize dogs and cats and provide vet care in marginalized townships around Grahamstown (Makhanda).

It's been about 6 years since I was first approached by someone who supported --what I later learned--was a scammer. The person who wrote to me asked if Animal-Kind International could help support a shelter in Mityana, Uganda, run by a young man who used all his money to feed and help unwanted dogs. Having lived and worked in Uganda and knowing Mityana, I was surprised to hear that there was a young man there, in Mityana, who was so selfless, sacrificing everything to help d

After Fondation Alliance Verte in Haiti completed their Animal-Kind International-funded grant project, we knew they still needed a lot more support to help their rescued cats and dogs. So we awarded them a top-up grant for vet care of their shelter pets. When you read about Blacky, you'll see why we're so grateful we could help this special dog, as well as 3 newly rescued cats.
